Plastic and reconstructive surgery recovers structural deformation or malformation and defects. It is an area of surgery that corrects and recovers appearance and functional defects. The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery performs various reconstructive operations and comprehensive studies such as microsurgery, grafting, dermatopeplastic surgery, cleft palate-craniofacial surgery and hand reconstruction. We also perform a variety of plastic surgeries to help relieve appearance inferiority complex and aging, and raise awareness of human body.
Korea University College of Medicine was the first to open a plastic surgery clinic in 1974 in Korea. The Department has 35 years of history. The Department is leading every areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery in Korea, and has contributed to the development of skin graft, burn scar reconstruction, various dermatopesurgery, cleft palate-craniofacial surgery, microsurgery, finger-tip reconstruction, hand reconstruction, maxillofacial reconstruction, chemical peeling, laser peeling, hair transplant, and carpal tunnel syndrome curing. Since 1999, we have held the laser peeling and plastic surgery symposia. Particularly, we opened the ear plastyat a university hospital, the first of its kind in Korea, in September 1, 2006, carrying out research and caring at the same time.
